UMI/Universal Metrics Inc. is a metal fabrication company that features job-shop creativity combined with manufacturing capabilities. UMI’s corporate facility is located in Menomonee Falls, with the mobility division located in New Berlin, WI.
The company was started as an engineering firm in 1968 by Stanley Krueger, at first Universal Metrics went around to small businesses helping them with their engineering needs. As the
business grew in popularity, UMI began selling wholesale fasteners and tooling. Around 1988, the sales were continuously growing, and again the business expanded. This time the president, Stanley, decided to start manufacturing custom metal products and begin sales over-seas. Since then, ownership has been passed down to Steven Krueger and the company has expanded with much force.
In the 2000-the present era of Universal Metrics, focus has shifted away from wholesales to become exclusively a metal fabrication company. There have been several production process additions added; such as robotic welding, powder coat painting, laser cutting, multi-axis press brake, and water jet. With the expansions of buildings and machinery, UMI is able to provide our services to new customers while expanding on the needs of our current customers.
UMI is divided into 3 different manufacturing divisions, where each division has separate production processes. Within the UMI company there is the MetalFab division, MetalWorking division, and the Mobility division. The MetalFab division is home to any sawing, forming, welding, and powder coating services needed. The MetalWorking division provides various bar-feed turning, chucking, and machining services.
